Illustrated History of the Church and the Man, with sound, light & music.
Date and time: Friday to Sunday 9-11 October at 7.00pm.
Description: This event, over 3 evenings, will be an illustrated talk with music and lighting effects. It will take us on a journey through time, starting with our Saxon and Roman forebears, and trace the history of Warblington, of our church of St Thomas à Becket as it developed through the ages and of the lives of those intimately involved with it.
We will explore some of the fascinatingly different quirks and unique characteristics of the church and will remember that where we are today, so our predecessors have been for a thousand years. We will also look in more detail at the schism between the church and state, personified by the breakdown in relationships, affection and respect between Thomas à Becket and King Henry ll. We will identify what those two men were separately trying to achieve in their own way, and why the problem was so intractable and ultimately unsolvable. We will finally look at our vision for the parish of today and of the future, determined that the steadfastness that sustained our forbears in their faith over the centuries will give us the energy and strength to continue God’s work in this place.
Tickets: This will be a ticketed event and details of how to apply will be advertised shortly. We will be raising money for our charities and to fund the building of a toilet. Because of the limitations of Wi-Fi in the area, we cannot take cards, but your cash will be very welcome! Please Gift Aid it if possible.
Refreshments: There will be refreshments available during the interval.
Accessibility: There is some car parking at the end of the lane by the church, or park in Church Lane as you approach. The toilets are public ones in the cemetery. The church is accessible to all.
